GUNN IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation)
Intramuscular Stimulation is a needling technique that helps to reduce adverse tone in tight muscle bands or trigger points. By targeting localized areas of tightness with the needle insertion, a reflex relaxation is produced in the muscle. This helps to relieve pressure on tender joint structures and in the muscles themselves which in turn influences pain and inflammation produced by the adverse tightness.
Research on the benefits of dry needling is supportive in the treatment of many conditions. With pain of recent origin, one treatment may be all that is necessary. In recent published studies of patients with low back pain, the average number of treatments required was 8.2.
Physiohaus clinicians are trained in Integrated Dry Needling, Functional Dry Needling, acupuncture and intramuscular stimulation (IMS).
GUNN IMS requires extensive training at the University of British Columbia. For more information regarding IMS, please refer to the University of British Columbia's website: https://www.gunnims.com/.
